Just a quick note to apologise to the lack of my fish Avatar that has been coveted by many. I tried to upload it today for you but it will not upload, not will my old one. Seems to be an avatar change problem on the site which Rapid has seen and that Bloomer was looking into about a month ago to no effect. This has been raised in Refs Room again.
Anyway back on topic, most specifically the Derby Fish. It must be as aggravating for Connor as it is for the fans. No-one is really getting much out of his 5 minute cameos to close out the games: most closers might have squeaked at least a goal in these performances but not our fish. Anyone think he has a future with us or will he go down as another Clough "unfortunate" signing?
"unfortunate signing" (euphimism)
I can't see him having a future here. It's not as if we've not given him enough time. I do think he does well for the last 5 minutes, chasing after the ball like a man possessed, but he won't be content with that, and I reckon he'll be on more wages than the management will be happy paying him. I think he'll be gone in the Summer, best for both parties.
Not the best of Nigel's signings. A blip on an otherwise very good record of player acquisitions.
No I cannot see the fish here for much longer.
I think it is a shame as he works hard, but hasnt really cut it at Derby and I see Steve Macs unwillingness to give him longer than the 5-10 minute cameos as a sign that he is not in his long term plans.
I think he may well unload him in the summer (if he can)
He did a great job last season and his effort and attitude remain first class. He has added something when coming on as sub this season, but unfortunately he can't deliver goals when we need them. In truth his first touch can be a bit random.
At Wigan he scored 1 goal in 34 appearances and whilst he he has done better with us that probably reflects that it is the Championship and not the Premiere League.
As part of the team improvement we expect next year , regardless of which league we are playing in, I think he will be moved on.
I think he will score key goals in the playoffs and earn himself a reprieve. He is due a few goals; his work and endeavour is exemplary and a great model for youngsters. His attitude is exceptional. He just needs a bit of a break.![]()
Ive always been 50/50 with him but leaning towards giving him a chance because of his workrate etc. But i'm now 50/50 and leaning the other way. His scoring rate is just too poor and his contribution to the game when not scoring is no longer enough. Ive always liked him but martin has shown how its done this year. As bear pointed out he must be on a decent wage so if we can...get rid.;
Apart from last season, Connor Sammon has mainly been used as a substitute since leaving Scotland. Whichever league we are in next season I would expect us to try to sign a player who can be a replacement or provide cover for the Martin role. That would limit Sammon's opportunities even more.
I applaud his attitude and professionalism but we need more.
I think it was 9 goals last season when he was first choice, simply not enough and apart from running around a lot (soemthing Clough liked about players) he adds very little to the team, Wigan must ahve seen Clough coming when they robbed us of over a million for a player who cost them A£600k one in many of many cloughs poor buys.
I thought this thread was about Conor Sammon
Here we go:
In a photo, looks a model centre forward.
On the pitch, anything but.
For a big man, he wins VERY few headers and though looks to rough up the CBs, never seems to dominate them..
His touch is excellent (third touch that is).
He cannot hold up the ball anywhere near to the degree Martin can - this is crucial to the way we play.
Natural finisher - not seen it yet.
From what I see, his strength is running onto balls through or over the top with CBs turning.
That's why I would like to see him play wider (if brought on) giving Bryson / Hughes time to run on to anything he produces. Martin or Bamford should be central.
I really wanted Sammon to succeed and on here, suggested he should be given time.
In fairness, he's been here a while but had little game time over this season.
Probably best all round if he does move on.
In hindsight, Sammon is probably as poor a signing as Martin was an inspired one.
