    Corky's yer man!

He spends a far chunk of his day in them believing that they 'can and will (sob)' kickstart growth in anything. This snap was kindly supplied by his allotmenteering mate, Sniffin' Sid. Corky's visage has been thoughtfully blanked out as ladies of a delicate disposition occasionally lurk on here.

That is a nasty slight on Corky.

    No need for it.

Plenty of them in the Chichester/Barnham area so there must be some merit in them. How big of one do you plan to buy for Scully Towers' balcony then ?

    Been looking myself.

Good quality ones can last a good many years, replacement covers are also available.

The cheap ones will last a couple of seasons at best.

Won't shatter like glass; especially important if on an allotment (Vandals)

Lighter than a glasshouse so prone to blowing away if not properly achored.

Cheap ones the frames are prone to rusting and bending.

Professional nurseries use them so the concept can't be bad, can it?

I suppose what I'm saying is don't buy a cheap one.

    re: polytunnels

I've been thinking about getting one for some time now, the negatives are the wind where i live, i'm up high and unprotected from the wind although i have been assured if it's built right it won't be a problem. The other is the lack of sun and the heavy rain. It can be glorious here for maybe three months of the year but when it rains it fecking pours. A nice bit of salad and veg would be great but is it worth the risk of spending a grand or too on decent equipment?
