Commons Wins Scotland Player of the Year

congratulations to Kris Commons on a great season. who cares you ask? i'll never forget those goals against forest. for that i'll always be grateful. there seems to be some bitterness towards him but I've always been a fan. well done to him.

hopefully this notion of 'he's never done anything since he left' can be put to bed. - view external link

I agree. Personally I am a fan of Commons. I cannot understand the bitterness towards him. I really think it the clubs dilly dallying over a new contract that made him go. He was prepared to stay at the begining of that season but it was only when both Celtic and Rangers were interested with Celtic offering the terms he wanted that Derby then matched them and lets all be honest if given that pay etc was the same, who wouldnt move to a club playing in europe ????? especially as he IS Scottish and thinking of his international career.

remember John 'I love Derby' Brayford took the opportunity and left as did Seth johnson, Malcolm Christie,Igor Stimac et al.

For one I am glad for him

    1. The club didn't dilly dally, we were unwilling to give him a new contract at the start of the season due to his fitness issues.

    2. The contract offered was actually better than what he asked for, he held out on signing it once the Celtic and

But let's have the whole story ..

After an excellent start to the season, where Commons was our leading scorer and was fit for a long period, Clough still slagged him off in public. A real way to give a player confidence and encourage him to sign .. not!

I still wouldn't swap him for Bryson or Russell!

Just because he played for Scotland, doesn't make him Scottish. I don't think his 'devotion' to the national team took him up north.

Just a quick glance at the current Scottish national side and I can pick out 4 or 5 players who are English.

Also, here's something that may surprise you... Richard Keogh ISN'T Irish, I know, newsflash.

I got married in a place called Kelham, turns out it is where Commons used to live, along with Nick Powell I believe who plays for Alfreton.

Anyway, I was talking to a landlord of a local pub there who knew Kris quite well and did so at the time he left Derby.

I am told that no matter how much money we offered Kris, he would not stay. He and his wife had suffered the loss of their child and apparantly they wanted a fresh start. He didn't turn his back on Derby as I thought he had done.

Only what he told me, but he seemed to know his onions.

It was his transfer from Forest to us that was because of his child. If you remember, during the 3-2 comeback/Commons game the forest lot sang about his child, that's why he celebrated.

I still think the club dilly dallied, they could of signed up the clubs top scorer much earlier in the season and I think it shows the lack of confidence in the fitness staff of the time if it was about his fitness issues, afterall players like Marcus Tudgay were given contracts whilst having fitness issues.

I believe they didnt think anyone would come in for him so they thought they could force him to take a lower wage, in the same way that he missed out on a player (was it Sammon)? due to having another look etc. In other words trying (and failing) to get him on the cheap. Had they signed Commons earlier then rangers and Celtic wouldnt have been in a position to sign him.

To my mind, he plays for Scotland, he therefore feels Scottish, he therefore is Scottish

    Rod Stewart is also Scottish

Or he might have wanted to play international football, knew England was obviously never going to happen and Scotland was an option. If I was a pro footballer and could get in Scotland's side but was English, I wouldn't then 'feel' Scottish.

I really don't think a new found loyalty to Scotland and Scottish football was a reason behind his move.
