This was never an appointment fans were ever going to be excited about. Know nothing about the man but if our turnover is even 4% higher in 5 years than it is now I'll consider him a runaway success.

Alan Burrows is the new general manager of the club, promotes from head of media.
An appointment which I think can most generously be described as interesting...

Time will tell how good a move this is - a bit unusual to take a media guy and put them in as general manager. Will he handle the contract negotiations? What experience does he have of running a business? Does this mean a dip in our PR activity (which still lags behind comparable clubs, I think) as he tries to combine both roles or does the club now look for a new head of media?
Can't help but see this as, superficially at least, a low cost option. He might turn out to be brilliant - let's hope so and good luck to him
Wow! Just heard the news. First, congratulations Flow, I wish you every success for the interesting times ahead.
Yes, an "interesting" appointment but good luck to Mr Burrows.
After an initial shock reaction, there could be some logic to it...
The hardly shocking conclusion is the club have taken the chance to save money. General manager is not chief executive - I suspect someone from the board (Weir, Wilson?) will handle the bigger things and leave the day to do running of the office etc to Burrows. He has certainly done very well with the media side of things, there is no reason to think he can't do similar in other areas - certainly his commitment and willingness to go the extra mile is obvious.
Furthermore, if it doesn't seem to be working out, we can still appoint a new CE in a few months. As long the main budget/negotiations on contracts are done in summer by people with experience, the damage is unlikely to be that bad...
Essentially it's a gamble but depending on the details which have not been released, it could well be one worth taking.
This is a very interesting and surprising appointment.
Firstly, best of luck to Alan Burrows in his new role. I don't know the guy personally but I think, in fact I am convinced, that this is a man who genuinely loves the club and has the best intentions to do the very best he can for the club.
However there have to be some concerns raised over his credentials for such a position. What experience does he have in such a senior and key position? What qualifications does he have? Will his undoubted love for the club cloud his judgement on important issues?
I guess only time will tell but this certainly is an appointment which raises eyebrows and we need to hope that its the correct one for the club. As I said I wish him all the very best but I have my concerns.
I would be amazed if Alan will have the same degree of decision making no disrespect but I would think Derek weir or someone else on board will deal with contracts and budgets but it's a promotion and I wish him all the best their is a lot to work on and would always want someone with the clubs best interests at heart to be in that position and I am certain he has that
Well put sir. Alan Burrows is a fine fellow and a diehard Well fan but is that enough? The post of General Manager is a responsible and wide ranging one encompassing staOriginally Posted by LawSteelman
No matter how anyone tries to sum up this appointment, it simply emphasises just how skint we are.
