Motherwell beat Saints to keep hopes alive

Just as well we had the lead at half time as the second half was poor. Good to see Faddy back to his old tricks. - view external link

i'll be interested to see the second goal again, no idea what happened there. Still loosing goals with the set pieces, need to keep on working on this. Very stuffy second half, with two teams killing each other off. Glad it's over and look for a better game on wed.

Nerve - wracking, but that doesn't matter now. The points are on the board. Like everyone around me in the Davie Cooper I spent the second half wondering when the 'Well were going to come down to our end for a wee while. I suspect that some of the guys don't have a lot left in the tank, so while I can get as anxious as anyone else when we appear to allow ourselves to be pushed back in game after game, I am, in the context of the size of our squad and given the loss of players at the end of last season, more than pleased with where we are. Played off the park last week, we came out today and scratched out three points.
    Well done the 'Well.

Why would players not have anything left in the tank they've hardly had a hectic schedule to cope with. It does concern me how slow we seem to be in relation to other teams.

First and foremost an important 3 points today boosted by results elsewhere going our way. We put in a Jekyll and Hyde performance. First half we started like a whirlwind and rightly went in at the break a goal to the good. Poor defending cost us a cheap equaliser and our second was shrouded in confusion, but it counted.

Second half was a complete contrast. Saints dominated for long spells as we retreated into our customary shell. Defending the way we do it was a gamble which just paid off. Nerve wracking nonetheless.

Our midfield was anonymous after the break but Craig Reid bolstered it a bit when he was moved into the middle. Whats with John Sutton playing wide left???

Saints were a very physical and at times cynical side leaving boots in and generally throwing their weight around. They were very lucky to finish with 11 men.

Kevin Clancy had a very poor game and gave us virtually nothing throughout the 90+ minutes.

    Good crowd.

Sutton is an awkward customer to mark. That's part of his job, and he will be regularly penalised. But over the past few games he has not, when it's been dished out to him, been getting his share of the decisions. Perhaps central defenders need to have both hands round his neck?

Thank goodness for someone else to see what I saw as pretty cynical behaviour by several of the St J side. Another point being that the referee waved play on most of the time, the only exception being his booking of May for blatantly diving in an attempt to gain a penalty. In addition...what a moaning shower they were, constantly chasing the ref with imagined complaints, and how often do you see a ref run after a player who has refused to come towards him in order ro lecture him?

i see the bbc are not showing the dive from may. can only guess that since he is a poster boy for the SPFL that's being ignored.

Kevin Clancy had a poor game and gave us virtually nothing all day. He was very inconsistent pulling us for very soft infringements whilst letting Saints players off with more serious offences.
