    England World Cup Squad

This is it here, any complaints? I think we've got a great looking squad, young and full of promise and although we still have no chance of winning, things are looking up.

I would have probably put Stones in for Smalling and any English player instead of Cleverley on stand-by.

I wonder how long it will take the patriotic carrick to retire (again).

    what would your team be?

    I'd have

    Hart

Johnson (although I'd of picked a different right back for the squad)
    Cahill
    Jagelika
    Baines

    Gerrard
    Wilshere

    Lallana
    Rooney
    Sterling

    Lambert

personally I think that side gives us the best balance. rather than keep having square pegs in round holes admit that rickie lambert is the best at playing that up front role on his own. alternatively if that wasn't going to happen potentially rooney/sturridge up front with ross barkley coming into the attacking 3.

I wish I could get enthusiastic about the England team.

But I can't. I don't really care who they take to tournaments these days. I'll watch the games with interest but nothing more. I'm probably going to treat the World Cup like Eurovision, be nice if we win but we almost certainly won't and I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I'll just watch it as a (hopefully) great tournament involving the worlds best players, some of whom might actually live up to their hype and significant pay packets to deliver some enjoyable quality. Unlikely that any of England's finest will be amongst them but you never know.

As long as there's some great football on offer from someone and the opportunity to mix that with social drinking then I'm happy.

I'm with you Ramondo. Id love to see Costa Rica turn England over though.

I have to say that the line up may be the best of what we have available but it inspires nothing. A lot of journeyman players with little flair.

I may not like what Greg Dyke is suggesting, but there is no question that something needs to be done if this is the best we can produce.

What was refreshing was that Hodgson spoke so honestly, it's nice to go into a World Cup as a fan to have some clear insight into the mindset of the coach for once. The squad is decent too and just have to take each game as it comes because each country will be very different opponents but if England play their own 'brand' of football, hopefully similar to Everton's, Liverpool's and Southampton's then I'm positive.

I think you have become a closet scouser Triz - 7 players from Liverpool, one future Liverpool player and one past one. (NB I use Liverpool in the wider sense of the expression).

we wish mate. lets not forget hodgson's tactics last time round of playing for penalties against Italy despite having the worst record in world football. we someone qualified despite struggling to beat any of our rivals on what was a poor group.

hodgson's too defensive. I'd much rather lose having a go.

I'm aware of the last major tournament and how stale the performances were but Hodgson had no time to impose himself on that squad and now he has had time I'm more positive and he deserves a good go at this without being slated before a ball has been kicked at the World Cup. Slate him afterwards but I think even in these next few
