    Cup final daytripper fans

Reading some of the meltdown on pikey mad brought home the question of daytripper fans.

It sounds great to say you took all these numbers, but is it?

Essentially you're at the match surrounded by people that never go; and 70% of them don't give the same kind of f**k as you do about the outcome - don't get behind the team as well, and only know the main songs.

Best atmosphere at a dons match I've encountered in recent seasons was our league cup semi at Tynecastle.

12,500 of us in a great compact stadium, - most of whom were the people that go week in, week out.

I've decided I much prefer that kind of occasion, despite the fine spectacle that 43,000 at ParkRed was.

Funny that the Dabs were not greetin about Daytripper fans when they beat Ross County in 2010?
It's only because they got beat after convincing themselves that it would be a stroll last Saturday, that the subject of Daytripper fans emerged

    re: Cup final daytripper fans

Is a "daytripper" fan such a bad thing? Obviously it would be best if they were all season ticket holders, or even regular attenders, but if through circumstances a bloke can only attend the very occasional game does that defacto mean he's less of a fan?

I think it can go in cycles.

1 When it's too expensive to go on yer own so you hope a parent/older relative/family friend brings you as a treat

2 You're old enough to go on your own and have occasional means to go but it's a bit hit and miss

3 You've a steadier stream of income and like to go with your mates on a regular basis

4 You've decided it's THE thing you want to do and look forward to everysecond weekend and buy a season ticket

5 You've acuired a girlfriend/boyfriend/other interest and find you can't devote as much time as youd hoped on weekends and money involved in going to games so you let the season book go and just attend regularly as before

6 Things like mortgage and weans and costs kick in big time and you've fewe
