Thread: Wembley pitch.

  1. #1

    Wembley pitch.

Saw this interesting video on QPR site, goes behind the scenes at Wembley. The interviewer asks the head groundsman:

"Who does the pitch suit? What type of player, at the weekend, will it really suit?"

    Reply:

"Well the forecast is rain. It's going to be quick, we're at twenty three mil. It's going to be a fast, zippy surface. So if you're fit and you're fast your going to be all right out there."

Sounds like it would sit us more than it would suit QPR.

Also, the Wembley pitch is exactly the same dimensions as the ipro pitch. Loftus Road is 3 yards shorter and almost 2 and a half yards narrower. Hopefully this may give us a tiny advantage. - view external link

It all adds up. I can see Ward having a field day.

Funnily enough I've dreamt that Richard Dunne and Clint Hill are getting shredded by our passing and movement, like they are running in treacle, and that Ward ends his 'goal drought' on Saturday! I've also had visions of Barton having a bit of a melt down and arguing with a team mate but that might be wishful thinking!

its all going to be about tactics.
    Game plan.
Players will need to lift their game.
    Mistakes could be costly.
Heads need to be kept high.
We are both in the same league so there is no need to be afraid.

Its not like if we are playing Chelsea again like in the FA cup.

Get the tactics right, is what will count.

It will make it more like a home game for us, surely? Exactly the same size pitch, and a slick surface will suit us perfectly.

The problem for us is that we have had a break. I haven't checked the past results, but I'm pretty sure whenever we have had a bit of a rest we have put in a poor performance the next game.

    Just an observation.

How often has a game this important followed a break though?

During the regular season, when we had two week break we won the next game (3) times.
Also remember QPR have had the same layoff.
