    Best modern war film?

I've just watched Kokoda 39th Battalion which i thought was the best war film i've seen for years. Anyone else have any modern war favourites?

I had never heard of that film but your post got me interested. I found out that it only had a limited release in Australia and found this review:

"I'm ex Australian Army and very patriotic towards this great country,
but I feel this movie no way does justice for us and those soldiers who
    fought at this battle.

The movie is poorly filmed. I thought the acting was terrible, they
were not believable and they didn't give me any reason for me to care
about them. People are saying this movie was graphic, there were a
couple of graphic scenes but I found most parts very weak. The war
scenes were very short and only last a couple of minutes.

Overall a weak film that doesn't do these soldiers any justice."

    Prefer anti war films.

Oliver Stone has directed a few good ones. Platoon, Born on 4th July, Heaven & Earth.

Spielberg also, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Empire of the Sun etc.

Saving Private Ryan was pretty darn good. The opening scenes are the only memorable moments in cinema that stopped Mrs brazil_saint munching her popcorn noisily. She was transfixed, handful of popcorn frozen in mid air between box and mouth.

Depends how 'modern' we're talking, I'll go for

    Full Metal Jacket
    Hamburger Hill
    Zero Dark Thirty
And I have to say Behind Enemy Lines, not because it's particularly good but because it reminds me of my own experiences of Bosnia having been there a lot during the 90's.

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot The Hurt Locker!!
