    Searching for Sugarman...

I saw this last night on BBC4 and what a great program it was...

It was all about a singer in the US called Rodriguez who sold zero copies of his albums on home soil but in South Africa he was bigger than The Stones or Elvis and he didnt even know it...

A South Africian went into a store in the US and asked if they had any Rodriguez albums in and was amazed when not only did they not stock his albums they had never heard of him either, when she went back home she mentioned it to a fan and he decided to track the singer down...

Well worth a look on BBC iplayer if you have an interest in music...

Similar thing happened to Skyless. They went in to a record shop in Glasgow and the guy had never heard of them. They then went in to a record shop in Edinburgh and the guy had never heard of them.

Maybe they're massive in Dumfries and they don't even know it. :/

It's a pretty crazy story regarding Rodriguez. My wife is South African and she knew all the songs - I had never heard of him until the documentary.

Thought he came across really well. Must've been amazing for him playing that gig to 15,000 people in South Africa, after all those years.
