    Welborne

Just saw a post on FB from an old pal of mine in Fareham raising vehement objection to this and wondered if any of you have a perspective? I know a few of you are behind enemy lines.

Used to live there myself a few decades back and still have family in the area so I found it all particularly interesting. More so I'm surprised this is the first I've head of it, but there you go.

The link is very very long, I've posted it for the few who might be interested in knowing more about it.

In summary though, Fareham council want to build a new settlement to the north of the town for approximately 6,000 peopled Welborne.

I thought the governments new wave of garden cities was to be restricted to the home counties, but it seems a town of over 90,000 people already is to be extended even further.

Will this make Fareham the biggest town in the country with no hospital? Hmmmm... - view external link

It'll happen Brocks, the houses are desperately needed in this area (there's a quota to meet) and with Winchester's restrictive planning laws, areas like Fareham are more than willing to put them through. That said, more skates, just what the world needs...

Funny that, I can remember being back at school when we did a geography project on that very subject and had to plan a "new town" somewhere in Fareham Borough. If memory serves I picked Segensworth so not too far off the mark.

Remains to be seen whether Welborne will be another commuter village or the new Leigh Park though.

Seems that the site between Stubbington & Fareham to the right of Mays Lane, Peak Lane/Longfield Ave is a possible site for more housing. Its fine to just say urgently needed but as someone whose lived in the area all my life its sad to see these green areas dissappearing.
    Progress I suppose.
