Scotland is the most highly educated country in Europe and a**** the best-educated in the world, according to UK statisticians.
More than two-fifths of people aged 25-64 in Scotland are educated to tertiary level, outstripping Ireland, Luxembourg and Finland at the top of the table, a new regional compendium by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed.
The rest of Europe, including the UK as a whole, falls below two-fifths, with Italy and Romania the lowest, according to the ONS.
Scotland is also up with Canada and Russia a**** the most well-educated countries in the world. - view external link
If that's true, then God help the rest of Europe.
One assumes that this board is therefore NOT a representative sample of the Scottish populace.

I think there must be a significant difference between "level" of education and "quality" of that education level.
I'd have guessed the Scandinavian education and probably German as well would be well ahead of what you get in the U.K.
It hasn't always been like that, the first time I moved to the U.S. they wanted to place me three years ahead of where I was coming out of St. Catherine's in Springburn.
Scotland then (early 80's) probably did have the best education system in Europe.
Judging by British literacy now, I have guys working for me where English is their third or fourth language and write better than most Brits.
I would guess a Scottish education on average is better than an English one- but that's no great accomplishment.
