Have you read Dan Simmons? He might snag your interests. He is a mixed genre writer. Well researched and takes stories to odd places.

A very good writer and storyteller. Much like your King in many ways.

All his stuff is not for me and he is a Yuppie always at the end of the day. SciFi and the like.

"Black Hills" About the American West and the Souix tribe and the development of post Civil War AmeriKa. It is a told in a different way. It was a superb book (until the last 30 pages - not long enough of a bad ending to ruin a really good read.)

Have started "Abominable" About Climbing and Everest in the after WW1 and I haven't got to the weird yet - it seems all his stuff has some weird in it - his thing.
