New season starts with Motherwell v St Mirren

What are the thoughts as we start with St Mirren H, United A, ICT H then Kilmarnock A? - view external link

On the face of it a reasonable set of fixtures with minimal travelling over the festive period. However, we'll need to wait until the TV companies consult us on the schedule changes (I wish) before we can come to a final view.

With Celtic's opening game postponed due to the Commenwealth Games, it gives us or others the chance for a head start of them.

Trickiest of the opening fixtures will be the second one away at tannadice. If we can come out the first two games with 4 points, I will be very happy.

Eh? Couldn't the powers that be have scheduled Celtic for an away game that day? I wouldn't have thought that to be too difficult. Ludicrous.

That's a decent set of fixtures to start our season off, no complaints there.

They will announce a big money friendly for that date. They had the other 10 teams to choose from to give Celtic an away game that day, but who did they choose - Thistle, so no chance of a swap. 'Lie'well obviously previously consulted on who they wanted?

Just noticed that the game at Hamilton on 1 January is scheduled for a 1945 kick off. Hmmm.

Hopefully we get through to the 3rd round of the Europa league qualifiers, which would mean playing the second leg on August 7th (i.e. two days before opening day)

I think something should be done now to plan for a potential delay to the SPFL game on the 9th if we get though so we don't have a 48hr gap between games (esp. if it's an away game!)

If Celtic can get a delay, then so can we!

EDIT: If we win our Europa League tie (July 17 &24) then the league opener will be delayed until Sunday 10 August (Whoops!, rant over )
