    Free Kicks

Has anyone else noticed the art of the sneaky free kick has been lost in the midst of everyone trying to do a David Phucking Beckham from 45 yards?

I cannae remember the last free kick within shooting distance (sometimes outwith) where they tried something clever & didn't try to curl it into the postage stamp.

Gordon Strachan, if you're reading this...

    re: Free Kicks

always p1sses me off the way beckham cloned the free kick as his own.

many lesser players have taken a great free kick.

shaun malonay has taken a few crackers in his time, with a bit of subtilty.

so have davy provan, davy cooper, andy ritchie and no doubt others can mention many more.

but ofcourse only when high profile players take a freekick well, do they get the credit.

The reason I mentioned that squeaky voiced fud is because he always seems to get the credit for inventing the curling free kick, Bend it like Beckham? Phuck off.

Edit - he was pretty good at them like.

Think the Brazilians were brilliant at free kicks long before Beckham was even heard of.

    re: Free Kicks

in 1974 world cup, brazil put a player in the wall v east germany at a free kick, as revilino took the kick, hitting it hard towards the player in the wall, he ducked and the ball went into the net.

if you watch the goal from behind it looks awesome.

beckhams free kick goals are nothing a lot of players cant do.

Beckham came about at a time when politicians, celebrities and folk who weren't really into fitba pretended to like it. The free kicks looked good for TV cameras which played a big role in Beckham's fame.

I ken it would be a bit much to expect folk to stay on topic but my initial point was that nobody takes a clever free kick anymore to someone running in behind the wall or a wee chip, they all do the standing there fixing their hair for 10 minutes & then putting the ball just wide or high.

    It's shyte.

They do that thing where they stand legs astride looking at the ball and then the goal for a minute too.

Never used to see folk do that. Ronaldo and Bale do it every time.
