Jackie Milburn - old time
Thierry Henri - Modern
What's the best striker you've ever seen live in the flesh?
Jackie Milburn - old time
Thierry Henri - Modern
Now then..
Modern (ish): Bergkamp, yes Bergkamp.
Old time: Hmmmmmmm let me see...yes yes!! Dixie Dean for me.
Wow Grumpy, did you actually see Dixie Dean?
Dixie last played for Sligo in 1939.
I thought I was old and I only saw Tommy Lawton once when he was past his best. Never saw Dixie.
Mark Hughes in his prime was like a force of nature. He had the complete strikers game as in could hold the ball up & bring others into play, play on his todd or as part of a combination. He could lay the ball off or spray 40-50yard passes around. Superb proffessional IMHO & if the rumours are true that Bally had the choice between him & McGarvey for Hateleys replacement then lets just say he got that one terribly wrong.
On one game live, Gazza in the fa cup for spurs against pompey in the year they got to the final , he was superb. Also think Henry was a special player every time ive seen him play v Pompey
I was at sea for the Spurs cup tie at Fratton. Did see the MOTD version a couple of weeks later thanks to a kind Spurs fan whose wife sent the recording out by post. Gazza destroyed my notion that it would go to a replay as both clubs needed the dosh at that time. Henry was the best display I ever saw at Fratton live, I was on nights that Saturday night but stayed to the end, no early exit for me. Andy Cole for Bristol City at Fratton after he was let go by Arsenal was pretty impressive albeit in a lower league. He did of course go on to better things
Alan Biley & Guy Whittingham.![]()
Mark Hately and Terry Henry![]()
Can't believe no one has mentioned an albeit old player by the Fillipo Inzagi?!
He was quite brilliant at Drayton when all his team mates including Kaka were average.
Henry, Yes.
Our own best striker, for me was Walsh.
