I find opening with the following sets the right tone:

"What the f**k do you do around here, anyway?"

trying tae think o a couple o tricky questions tae hae lined up for my boss for when things go pear shaped...as they always appear to do at my appraisals

In that case, I'd go for bursting into tears and telling your boss how every penny you get paid goes towards caring for your wheelchair-bound, diabled sister who needs round-the-clock care. You're all she's got, and you've resorted to dipping the neighbours' bins for scraps of food, so that you can pay her medical bills,etc.etc.

Try to get across to your boss that you love your job and you are very keen to progress and you admire your boss and you will do anything to get your progression going forward,and you would love your boss to be your mentor and he looks ***ky in that shirt he is wearing.
