Even before the World Cup he was way to over priced.

Chelsea must still be rubbing thier hands together at getting that much for him.

Fair few pundits said that when Jose went back to manage Chelsea Luis would be very unlikely to last more than a season there. They got it spot on.

Bloody hell Dorset, you could have condensed the thread title a bit.. . . . . Tolkien would have been proud of that. . . . . . .I fell asleep before the end.

I risk some mocking here, but I think Luiz is World Class, the only problem is that he is NOT a central defender.

Play him at full back, defensive midfield or central midfield and you will soon see how good he is.

    Just my opinion.

(not saying ANY player is worth £50M)

I agree with you on that Gaz. Technically he is world class but he is not a central defender. Not sure I'd want him in the trenches with me either. Chelsea have done very well with 50 mil in the bank for him. I'm not sure there has been any
outstanding deals yet but a few people I know think Cresswell could be a really good signing.

As a holding midfielder definitely. Vision and passing is first class. Gets forward and scores too.
Just don't want him in the last line of defence

World Class technically but park class when it comes to discipline and the former is pointless without the latter.

Brazil's woeful defending wasn't just down to Luiz, although I agree with those who say his best position is as a holding midfield player.

In that back 5 (including the keeper) were 4 players with recent Champions League winners medals, don't think Luiz has one of those otherwise it would be 5.

The point being they are all quality defenders but as a unit they were utter, utter toilet.

Which imo suggests the coach is the most culpable. Clearly no one in that team had any idea what their job was supposed to be.

I would nominate PSG's pairing of David Luis and Thiago Silva, as the most optimistic defensive partnership assembled, by a champions league club.

ha ha ha ... oh i love it !!
Wigan striker Grant Holt has attracted interest from Premier League side West Ham after dropping out of Latics' pre-season tour.
The former Norwich City and Rochdale striker had a loan spell at Aston Villa last season and appears surplus to requirements at the DW Stadium.
Holt will not be involved with his club for the tour of Germany and will spend that time getting fully fit and finding a new club.
The 33-year-old is understood to be available for around 750,000 and that has alerted the Hammers, who are in the market for another target man.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is a fan of the striker who could not hold a first team place down last season as Wigan narrowly missed out on the FA Cup Final and a return to the Premier league .
