    Mac and Hughes

I listened to the post match and SMC talking up Hughes performance.
Maybe its psychological mind games but I just didn't see it myself. I think Steve has a blind spot where Hughes is concerned.

Sure he was running around and niggling people (a bit like Robbie Savage) but his tackles were often mistimed. He was really lucky not to get booked early on (that really angered Evans, so not all bad). His game is about finesse not muscle. He should not be playing that role at all.

He is just not big enough. More experienced Championship players will have him for breakfast and possibly hurt him. Mascarell looked stronger to me and more assured. Hope he starts on Monday or Eustace even if Hughes recovers.

Perceptions.. I thought he was best player on pitch 'til he went off.

I thought Hughes played reasonably well but agree it certainly the wrong position for him we really missed his creativity further up the pitch. I know he went off injured but Bryson wasn't having a very good game. I would have taken him off earlier, put Hughes in his place and brought El Cid (I'll remember his soon) on.

I thought Hughes did well in that role against a hard-working and physical side. He looks to have become more muscular and be filling out a bit.
Thorne suits the role better there is no doubt, especially because it allows Hughes to play further forward - but there is no harm in Hughes having a few positional strings to his bow (especially if he is eventually going to move on for big money).
It's possible Mascarell will eventually replace him there but if he's fit I would fully expect him to start there against Carlisle ;-D

I thought Hughes looked good, I remember him doing one tackle that was simply world class.

I think Hughes had a good game yesterday, but i wish we would stop using him in that position he really is too light weight and we lose so much higher up the field. Thorne's injury really did cause a quandry but i think it is quite clear now its Omar or Eustace all the way.

Hughes played well i thought, but it isn't the best position for him and he is liable to pick up injuries playing there. Also we miss him being creative further forward - i agree if Hughes hadn't been injured then a swap for Bryson would have made sense.

We have 3 quality midfielders and they can't all 3 play without the team being affected - its a quandry for Mac but a nice one to have

Omar looked ok in the holding role. I also prefer Hughes in the final third of the pitch picking those passes.
Hendrick can't be dropped at the moment but Bryson could be... He should not have devine right to his starting position.
Hughes won't play tomorrow but I would have liked to see him and Hendrick playing the more advanced roles.

v Carlisle must be a good time for Eustace to have a go !
