    Speeding drivers...

... who risk lives by driving too fast on the roads are being warned by Hampshire police – don’t do it – as a Europe-wide crackdown is launched.

For a week from today there will be extra patrols round the clock involving specialist officers and targeted operations in a bid to catch more people who flout the limits.

As part of the operation – co-ordinated by the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) – the force will be using undercover motorbikes for the first time. The two bikes will work alongside marked and unmarked police cars.

They'll catch loads with the a27 at Farlington a certainty for good pickings

One of the peak weeks of the year for holiday traffic, which is a traditional fundraising time for traffic cops in tourist destinations - France, Spain, italy etc.

The cops need to look at their own crazy driving first. Walking across town to go to a match a couple of years back there was 3/4 kids walking in a narrow stretch of road when a cop car came down like a bat out of hell, swerved and only just missed the kids. I don't know what call they were answering but it would not have been worth those kids being moved down.

Two roads I would pick out down here. The a27 between Bedhampton and Farlington both ways has a history of accidents, often at peak periods, imho mainly due to changing lanes far too late or without due care and attention when they do. Over the years the a272 between Petersfield and Winchester was one of the worst for accidents I have driven on. I don't think that road has changed at all since I first drove on it around 45 years ago.

    Blimey! You've changed your tune!

Usually you moan about shopping trolleys being badly steered.

Nah - my heart belongs to Pompey!

But I am going on Tuesday.

    Huddersfield ain't exactly a Wigan.

Taking some cotton wool to staunch the nose bleed and an oxygen mask/cylinder.

Have you seen the new stand?

Not yet on the TV but when the tin shed season ends I'll see if I can pop down if Pompey are away up North. Oxford for me Saturday, looking forward to hearing of my Cov families' Spanish holiday too.

Let me know when you plan to come to the capital - with at least four weeks notice.

We pride ourselves on making visitors welcome (like the song says ) and we'll put on Brickwoods draught, get some cockles in and pipe you into the stand.
