    FAO Stewarty

I'd like to hear your take on this if you don't mind.

It concerns the claims by those in the Yes camp that iScotland will be in EU and CU.

As far as I've gathered The rUK would be the continuing state, Scotland would need to reapply or have enough existing members in favour of amending the constitution to allow them to continue. The general consensus is that there is no will to fast track Scotland particularly when you see the can of worms it could open up for Spain and others.

The currency union isn't happening because the BOE have weighed up the pros and cons and decided being the LOLR of an independent Scotland is far to risky despite there being some benefits.

Do you disagree that this is the situation at the moment and it's only post referendum that the SNP will begin to try and change their minds??

    Cheers.

Stewart, no one else on here seems to know the counter argument for this point either:

Is it not ridiculous that an independent Scotland would instantly seek to hand over even greater control to Westminster than they currently have via a currency union??

I'm sure there's a counter argument for it, be good to hear it.

    Cheers.

I don't get the is 'even greater control' We will have full political control but operate within certain economic parameters as most countries in Europe do. We are not voting for isolation. Scotland will have full control over its revenues and how we spend them.
In the event of a YES vote the same businesses who are spooked about independence (because lets face it business never likes progressive change) will be putting pressure on the UK government to negotiate a currency union.
