    Shotton

Do you think we should give him a try as a holding midfielder? Mascarell looks a bit lightweight yet and shotton has the strenght. Can't see Eustace playing 3 games a week and he is bound to get a red card/to many yellow cards soon.

I reckon it could be an option.

We've been critical of Eustace on this board over the last 3 weeks, but last night he held his position so well, used his experience and kept it simple.

He will soon rack up his yellows and then we can turn to Shotton or Mascarell.

I'd be disappointed if it hasn't crossed McClaren's mind. I felt Eustace last night, as good as a game I thought he had, pressed too high at times and left us exposed on a few occasions.

I agree with Grimsby. We were pressing, high and fast, which is fine if you have Bryson and Hughes, but Eustace was also trying to nick it before it was being played round the corner, but he's just too slow to do it. Left them 3 on four on some occasions.

Still think he is the best DM we have available

Was by no means a faultless performance by Eustace last night, but he did play a very important role in the win. I thought he held his position perfectly and allowed Will and Brys freedom to play their games

He made his tackles. Crunched Rhodes a good un. And he organised. When he had the ball, kept it simple and left Will to conduct the orchestra.

Could be critical and say he and Keogh managed to allow a player wedged between them to poach a goal, but as I say, not claiming it was a perfect performance

Angry would of have been cringing at his efficiency last night, but hey ho, 3 pts on the road. Who's complaining?

I'm not so sure with Shotton, I think he'll lack the positional sense to play there. Yes he's athletic and can tackle, but it's the tactical side which makes all the difference in there. It's why Eustace can play the role well, despite being technically and athletically inferior to everyone else in the squad.

If he can play the role, the Mac will try it, I have no doubt of that.

I think Mascarell deserves a mention. He came on whilst we were defending our lead, which won't suit him. I think if we're chasing a game, or even from the off, he can play the holding role and make is tick, more so than Eustace. Hopefully he develops physically, and can impose himself a little more.

Of course, all of this will be irrelivant when Mr. Thorne returns, oh how we miss him
