O/T: Ladies Football Match Halted Briefly During 2nd Period

Birmingham v Liverpool Women’s Super League match held up after referee spots rogue tampon on the pitch.

There was plenty of controversy in the Women’s Super League clash between Birmingham City and Liverpool at the weekend, with referee Stuart Richardson having to apologise for allowing Fara Williams’ winning goal.

The England international hit a long-distance effort to claim a ***** three points straight after Birmingham had equalised, but the hosts said the ref hadn’t blown his whistle for the re-start.

However, that wasn’t the only talking point from the encounter.

The match was briefly halted during the second half after Richardson spotted a rogue object on the pitch, following a strong challenge between City’s Kirsty Linnett and Liverpool’s Corina Schroder.

The Birmingham physio was called onto the pitch, plastic bag in hand, to remove the mystery item – which turned out to be a tampon.

It’s certainly unlikely to be an event recreated in the Premier League anytime
