    Steak Thread

My Missus is off to NY next week to study the premium steak market - 4 days of eating quality steaks at lunch and dinner, and she wouldn't take me!!

So what's your favourite cut, how do you like it cooked and where's the best you've had?

We normally go for ribeye as it's probably the best value for money cut from the butchers (if you're not pushing the boat out). But as part of her study I'm learning new techniques on how to cook them.

Not too keen on steak, or any other red meat as it happens.

Don't think I have had a steak for about 20 years. The current trend of TV cooks having it so rare it pumps blood makes me hoik.

This. You can't beat a medium-rare fillet mignon.

Saying that, I do like a good well done sirloin steak too.

T bone on one of Her Majesty's submarines every Saturday supper. Let's face it on an 8 or 9 week patrol, apart from the footie results, there wasn't much else to look forward to.

Nice bit of rump(ooh err) I get the griddle very hot & add a very small amount of olive oil. Dry the steak, bit of seasoning & then cook for about 2mins 45 secs each side. Voila.
That equates to a medium steak in my language.

    Like a ribeye, medium rare.

If you can get really good rump (and I mean really good) then it can't be beaten.

Fillet is very overrated imo, the lack of fat content means it has very little flavour hence why it's normally smothered in a sauce.

Best steak I've had recently was in the Porterhouse restaurant in Winchester and it was a sirloin cooked medium rare.

I had some venison steak from Sainsburys the other day and it was ace.
