Chris Martin seems to be picking up from last season and adding goals to his excellent link up play.
How do you think he compares to Bobby Davison who wasn't averse to a give and go himself.
As I've written this, I've just realised that you need to be of a certain age to have seen Bobby in action. Obviously welcome any comments but it would be good to know if you actually saw Bobby play.

One of my first ever footy memories is derby fans singing 'we want bobby back'. I dont remember ever seeing him play but he has a place in my heart for that. Can anyone remember what year we were on about getting him back. Im guessing it was late 80's as i was born in '82.
It was '91 Triz when he was a Leeds player but came back on loan for 10 games.Originally Posted by triz
I've not got a great memory - I just think Wiki has it right. I do remember he scored a few goals in that loan spell (8 goals in 10 games according to Wiki).
cheers rob, i remember thinking, who is this bobby? he sounds awesome.
Bobby Davison was one of my favourite Rams strikers - was fast and a very powerful striker - was very different to Chris Martin who relies on a very adept touch and clever positional play. Bobby didn't have the cultured touch of Chris Martin but used to torment defenders with raw pace and power. He became a real cult figure at the Baseball Ground and to me it felt like return of the 'king' when he came back for a loan spell - I seem to remember he scored on his first game back and I was amazed when he wasn't signed permanently again.
I must admit when Chris Martin first arrived at Derby I wasn't convinced - he looked slow and immobile but now MaClaren has transformed him into the pivotal player in our team and I dread to think what would happen if we lost him to injury.
Started me thinking about me favourite Rams strikers - think I would go for:
1. Hector
2. Davison
3. Saunders
4. George
5. Wanchope
Martin is great at the moment but he is going to have to go a bit to depose any of
My first few Derby games were when Bobby came back on loan.
Can,t remember much from then, but seem to see him as an old school no.9 in my mind. Fox in the box type.
My top 5... 1991 - 2014
1. Baiano
2. Martin
3. Studger
4. Kitson
5. Tommy Johnson
Could easily have put Willems, Rasiak, Christie or Howard at 4 and 5
kitson and Johnson were school boy idols tho!
I put Martin in comparison to Davison as they both played at the same level mainly (second tier).
Also worth noting that Bobby was only around 5' 9" yet seemed such a bigger player - a real threat in the air.
As for best strikers I've seen, I would say:
1. Hector
2. George
3. Lee
4. Saunders
5. Goddard / Davison
(Until someone reminds me who I've forgotten)
Ohh Bobby Bobby Bobby, Bobby Bobby Bobby Bobby Davison . My all time hero, a shining light in dark times for Derby . Legend![]()
My top 5 from 94 onwards is
1) Sturridge (he gave me my first success as a derby fan)
2) Baiano (ive always loved those sort of players)
3) Wanchope
4) Gabbiadini (my first favourite player)
5) Commons (he played there enough for me to consider him as a striker)
I'll judge Martin when he leaves us but im sure he'll be riding high in that list.
