    some of steve's signings

I don't post on here hardly at all but I read the views all the time.

I like Steve more than Clough but some of his signings are not very inspiring

Butland.. Nothing great and distribution is awful
Whitbread.. What can I say about his negativity
Leon Best... Best he certainly is not
    Ryan Shotton .. Very average
Ibe .. Nowhere near as good as everyone thought
Calero. Poor lad never gets a chance

Why would a good manager off load Salmon only to replace him with a player that's pretty useless. Salmon was a much better sub and held the ball up

Cristie and thorne are the exceptions but I fear top of the table was flattering in a very sub standard championship

Disagree entirely, how judgement can be made on players who have not played on a regular basis is baffling - after all many of our now "established" players, Buxton, martin and Forsyth to but 3 hardly pulled up any trees in their first dozen games for us, people forget players need to have regular game time to adjust to tactics and the other players in a team, even players commanding multi million pound transfer fees don't gel within a couple of games, so how are young or lower quality players expected to?

Sorry Whitbread wasn't signed by McClaren.

Whitbread was signed by McClaren. He was only on loan before he decided to sign him

He signed him on a permanent after a loan that's probably worse if he turns out to be a bad signing.

SteveJay is pointing out what has been concerning me for some time. Angry said rush claimed Clough went as one of the reasons was contacts and aquesitions. Well McClaren has seemed to struggle to get anyone in that has improved to squad already here and the numbers are growing.

Is that one of the reasons the team are struggling at the moment as these can't fill the gaps left by injurys.

Swale you disagree can you substantiate that with the successes out stripping the so far failures?

Let's just set some context here:

We're 3 points off the top having had a 12 match unbeaten streak without playing at our peak, with a Premiership-class member of the team out through injury.

Not all signings even for top Prem managers work out.

We cannot deny the links that McClaren has in getting very good loan signings; only one so far has been an utter flop (Best).

His perm signings (Thorne, Christie, Dawkins, Roos, Whitbread, Naylor ) put the McClaren acquistions in credit in my book.

Let's not allow set-backs to start colouring our judgements.

We haven't lost a game Shotton played in, only conceded 1 in 6 with him on the pitch...

Roos looks better than Butland, Butland is only a loan.

Christie has been great, raved about by other teams fans.

Thorne? Best centre mid in the division.

Dawkins definitely improved us and gave us more depth.

Whitbread should really be back up but still we've had far worse under Clough.

    Ibe will come good.

    Calero looks immense.

Leon Best is the only one I have issue with, guy is toss. Naylor is just cover and has looked OK when he has actually played.

We spend too much time passing the ball around the back and then back to the goalkeeper. No shots equals no goals.. You don't score from the back.. When we do move forward we have 20 passes before we reach the final 3rd and the law of averages states the more you pass, the more chance you will lose the ball

We should build from the back with quicker moves of around 10 or so passes to get the ball into the opponents box and at least it would improve the efforts on goal. 3 or 4 shots in 10 mins is better than 1 shot or no shots because we've spent too much time playing triangle passes near the back

Last year we were positive. Teams have seen our negativity and we try to pass our way into the goal with no plan B. Ibe has plan B by going on a run and cutting out some of the pass backs and 20 passes but he too often runs into a blind alley

I think if we are more positive, try 10 passes into the box instead of 20 we will have a lot more shots and storm this league and if we do lose the ba
