I was watching a very interesting Home Affairs Select Committee the other night, this select committee is chaired by Keith Vaz, a very good chair he is.

they had invited the mayor of Calais over to discuss the problem of illegal immigrants, these immigrants start their journey to England from Calais, they are in Calais for months (even years perhaps) until they make it over here.

the select committee suggested that the French should be doing more to make sure the immigrants are dealt with whilst they are in France, which I'm sure we'd all agree they should be doing.

the French are now creating a centre of some sorts to house these immigrants, as, understandably, the citizens of Calais feel unsafe with these people wandering around their town, as I'm sure we would if we lived there.

our politicians rightly think that this will compound the problem, immigrants are going to think it's some kind of welcoming centre before their onward journey to these shores!
