although there are many on both sides who wish to disassociate themsleves and their clubs from the term "Old Firm" most people realise that as long as there is a team in blue playing at Ibrox and a team in green and white playing at Celtic Park there will be , unfotunately for the rest of Scotland, an Old Firm.

The old firm fixture died with rangers.
As for the semi final fans of both clubs will look forward to it,police scotland will dread it and the rest of the population will not give a flying Phuck.

I think the reason the term Old Firm was in use was it was easier to say, less of a mouthful, and quicker to write "shorthand" for Rangers and Celtic, who love them or loathe them, took up the vast majority of football meeja in Scotland. And it also had the convenience of neither being Rangers and Celtic, or Celtic and Rangers.

Now with Celtic and the The Rangers, a term like Old Firm, or even The Old Firm ;-), has come back in vogue for similar reasons.

The Old Firm is gone, but there may be a case for using the The Old Firm tag - or maybe not.

Donald Findlay might have something to say about it.
