    Queens 6 Morton 5

    Tue 26 Feb 2002

    GREENOCK MORTONH

    LeagueW 6-5

    Palmerston Park1,242

I'd forgotten that the half time score in this match was 6-3 to Queens. This match must stand up in Scottish Football records somewhere with the number of first half goals and the 11 goals overall?

Two goals in the last 3 minutes from Morton and as I recall it could well have finished 6-6.

Noting the weather that night I'm not surprised by the low crowd figure although I'm glad I travelled down from Irvine to witness this one. Will stay in the memory bank forever.

Queens lost 8-5 at Motherwell back in the Thirties.

Well that blows my theory out of the water, then.

Remember the Game Well Albertz Davie Mcpherson scoring for Morton as did big Sean And Warren Hawke. Paul Wright great game but not good for the heart rate.

The point Albertz was trying to make (I think) Daftpunk was that it may be a Queens record that 9 goals were scored before half - time in that game v Morton. In the 8 - 5 game in 1938 - 39 it was only 4 - 3 at the interval.

That was the point I was trying to establish.

Scottish actor Martin Compston ( Wee Man , Sweet Six**** , Line of Duty , Monarch of the Glen etc ) was on the bench for Morton that night

Compston made two appearances for Morton, both of them when he came off the bench. One of these was against queens on 27/04/2002 when queens won 4-0 to lift the league title in front of over 5000 fans. He should maybe make more appearances at Palmerston. That's what may draw the crowds back

FAO Fatfan - Queens lifted the title a week before at Forfar on 20th April. The game v Morton was a wee bonus for the 6,158 who packed Palmerston that day.
