I think McClaren openly stated he's looking for just over 80 points. Think he's right.
If only we played Forest on Saturday!

A lot has been made of how "current form" rather than "league position" will be the defining factor in the championship this year. Last year the top two accumulated large points hauls, whereas this year that does not look as likely (but who can tell what will happen). In fact at the moment it looks like our points haul last year might be enough to secure automatic this year?
So the principle is "anyone can beat anyone" and let's hope we don't meet too many teams during their purple patches.
However when I say anyone can beat anyone, there is one team at the moment who cannot beat anyone - see form guide attached (if you are a marauding red dog, do not click the link, it may be damaging to your health) - view external link

If only we played them every week!

Pleased we played Fulham and Bournmouth at home, and Bolton away when we did, narked we haven't play B'ham before Rowett went in, or travelled to Forest now as opposed to Sept
Our points total last year would have got us an auto place, so as long as we can do a repeat of last season we should be fine!
Are you sure you actually mean Form and League Standing?
Most people on here clearly demonstrate they dont understand 'form' in its truest form. Form is results taking into account factors. Horse racing you have 'going' as one or Athletics you have 'altitude' or 'wind speed' etc. But here its just the final result which isnt form its a liting of results!
As beardy and a few others have said League Standing means nothing until all the teams have played each other the same amount of times. Or unless someone is mathematically certain to be or do something.
Is what you are really asking is entertainment or results?

My point is that results against teams in the "top 6" or "bottom 6" etc - ie current league standing - isn't really much of a guide. What is important is getting results against form teams - ie th
Personally for us I'd rather play teams in good form, not great form but good form.
Teams in bad form against teams who are at the top are likely to consolidate more, know they're not on good form so will play to OUR weaknesses not THEIR strengths. Teams who play to our weakness often to well however when they try their own game, we beat them.
Looking at every game we have failed to win from Cardiff onwards on 20th Sept (earlier than that is too early to call 'form'), we've dropped points in four games. These are...
Cardiff came to PP with 1 point in 4, and that was against Fulham (their first point of the season) and drew against us.
Millwall had got 1 point in 5 (again, not very significant, it was against Forest...) and came to PP, got a point.
Wigan came to us with 5 points from their previous 8 games, but none of those points included a win. So winless since 30th August then beat us, at PP.
Brentford had only gone three games without winning, but
So then roger.
Two equal mid table teams A and B.
Team A get 2 Draws and 2 Wins against manure, Chelsea, man City and Arsenal.
Team B get 2 Draws and 2 Wins against Burnley, Fester, Stoke and WBA.
So which team has shown the better form!?!?![]()
Its a value judgement - that what form is: not simply quantitative but also qualitative.
This is why the form table I attached also identified who the results were against.
