    Scott Brown v Kevin Thompson

    December 2006

Both playing together in midfield at Hibs, 8 months age difference between the 2, both touted for stardom, in demand from other clubs.

    January 2007

Thompson wants away and declares (despite being brought up a Hibee fan) the thought of staying at Hibs makes him 'sick' throws the dummy out of the pram and engineers move to Rangers.

Thompson tries to persuade him to join him at Rangers. Broonie has none of it. Scott Brown quietly gets on with his game. Hibs agree terms Reading to sign Scott. He turns them down saying

"If I had chosen Reading I would probably be fighting a relegation battle next season and then maybe disappearing into the Championship. In two years' time people would have been saying, 'Remember that lad Scott Brown – whatever happened to him?" Reading were indeed relegated.

    March 2007

Rangers fans gets excited convinced at they will sign him in May (link below)

It's an interesting comparison. There's no doubt that Scott Brown has managed his career far more successfully than many of his contemporaries. Too many players go down south to minor English teams and then their careers just seem to stall. Usually they return to Scotland but often to lesser teams than they left.

Of course you can't really fault players for being ambitious and wanting to prove themselves in another league but it's nonetheless true that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I don't quite understand why Brown didn't join Rangers however. My understanding was that he was a boyhood supporter of the old club?

Not easy to manage your career well when you have a run of series injuries.

Thompson was always the better player. And the one who ultimately did get the chance to go to England.

Brown on the other hand was the subject of various bids of £10M, £12M, £15M, at least in the minds of the sycophantic Scottish mhedia.

If you're looking for a better comparison from within Celtic, try the scorer the other night. Far less blowhard form him and his mhedia, but a far better player.

Oh, and don't get me started about Brown's tinpot hardman act of his that gets the Scottish Mhedia so worked up. He'd be a better player without it.

True, not easy to avoid injury when you've got grasshopper legs.

Some might say though that physical health and fitness is part of what makes you a professional athlete.

A pointless exercise tring to reply to a thread originated by timmy as timmy will already have made his mind up about both the subject and how Rangers fans should reply.

See the response to Sir Walter's post on this thread for proof of this.

Indeed. My question was a rhetorical one. I laid out my point of view on the 2 players. You can argue against it, agree with it or ignore it. That is the general concept of discussion forums.
