    A bit of confusion

I've been following the posts re Danny Williams 90th Birthday and I've got a bit confused over who holds the record for most appearances for the Millers. Looking at the post "RUFC Hall of Fame" it seems that some other may also share my confusions, which is this - I thought that Paul Hurst had overtaken Danny's record for appearances. I seem to remember that there was even a match day programme with Hursty's pic on the front of it when the record was broken. Yet in recent posts and on Wiki I've noticed that Danny is credited with most appearances - anyone have the definitive answer (is it to do with League only appearances and league and cup appearances combined?)

Someone please put me out of my misery as I pride myself on knowing these sort of facts about the Millers.

Danny Williams was re-instated as most appearances after further matches were added to his total.
Danny Williams is the official most appearances record holder.Long

Thanks for that. When did the record get changed and what are the scores on the doors.

To young to have seen Danny play, but I did like Paul Hurst and his never say die attitude. If he'd been a bit bigger I think he'd have gone on to bigger things.

Not sure of the stats perhaps Zippy,Cam or someone else could come up with the info.

Do recall it being in "Tizer" just cant remember when.

As for Paul Hurst yes he was an excellent player for the club and deserved his recognition.

I just rely on what I can find online unfortunately and as Whippet says, when I looked on Wikipedia when researching the Hall of Fame thread it seems DW has the record but I too remembered PH passing his tally

We need Zip on this one (although he is from over the Barnsley border and once was 'one of them')

Thanks for that Cam, but good things come to those who wait :-D

Paul Hurst made 438 League appearences, plus 27 in FA Cup, 14 in League Cup and 18 in Football League Trophy (under it's various guises) making a total of 497.

Danny Williams made 461 League appearences, so that was never going to be beaten by Hursty unless he had another season with us.
But they originally had Danny down as making 31 FA Cup appearences (remember no Lge Cup or FLT in those days) giving him a total of 492 in total, which was overtaken by Paul Hurst in November 2007.
However, appearences in FA Cup ties from 1945-46 were originally omitted from Danny's total...we played 8 games in total that season (2 legs in FA Cup ties that season for the one and only time) and i believe Danny played in 7 of them to give him 499 apps in total and keeping the all time records on both counts.

    *Danny also played 3 season's during Wartime and made a further 95 appearences...33 in 1943-44, 37 in 1944-45 and 25 in 1945-46
