Just watched the retraction interview. Is Whelan a racist - I doubt it - but certainly clumsy in his choice of words. But he has got himself into a hole so he should shut up now and stop digging.

As far as Tan is concerned in my opinion he should stop being so precious and get over himself. I know that society has changed and you cant say and get away with things that used to be flippant and soon forgotten. When I think of some of the things I was called down in Aussie and frequently even now by our Pompey friends its best just to laugh it off.

Society has become weak and precious, you can't eat a bacon sarnie without pi55ing someone off these days. At worst Dave Whelan is a bit of a dinosaur, but racist? No chance. I don't really get the fuss over a few PRIVATE texts messages either, FFS if they got hold of my Whatsapp account I would be strung up!!

Bernard Manning was a beauty and Malky McKay doesn't even come near. When asked in some soppy interview why he was such an obnoxious, bigotted, prejudiced, fat b@stard. BM repled that he was no ordinary fat b@stard but a fat, rich b@stard who wasn't prejudiced towards anyone in particular because he hated every f ooker, especially his mother, who he described as a f ookin yiD !

I go along with the view "he's a dinosaur", rather than racist, but as a person who speaks to the public, via interviews, he needs to be a bit more savvy when doing interviews.

My old dad is 91, and still refers to black people as "coloured" and will never change.
He still calls people from Pakistan, Pakis, and argues why is that wrong when it isn't wrong to call an Australian an Aussie.
He still stereotypes race, in a similar way to DW. He truly doesn't see that his way can be considered as racist or rude.
