A few years ago I was working in Shaftesbury - our works do's were in the local football club - a wee pavilion-type place with a bar. The first one I went to was just after we moved there. They had the pictures on the wall of all the teams from way back. I remember looking at the ones from 1913-1914 - a dozen or so young guys, some old enough to have those daft moustaches that were in fashion at the time... I remember reading thes to see if they were the same as the people I was working with - small towns often have the sames for generations. Anyway, the day after I was taking a wee walk through the village and stopped at the war memorial - there were the same guys's a**** the list, some from the earliest days of the war.
    So very sad.

That hits it home. Just young men. Football on Saturday. Dead on Monday.
