    The women are quite rightly pointing out that FIFA would almost certainly not consider allowing the men's world cup to be played on artificial pitches and such being the case why should women's football be treated with less consideration.

    Ah - when you put it like that I understand where they are coming from. The impression I got from the two lines in the article was that if both men and women played on plastic pitches it would be discrimination against the lassies

    I'm fairly sure that at least one of the stadia for the Russia World Cup in 2018 will have a synthetic surface.
