Thread: Boro or Chelsea Focus

    Boro or Chelsea Focus

I know most people will say that the league should be the main focus, however losing at Boro will not end our season, but losing to Chelsea will end our cup run, I'm not saying we are likely to win against Chelsea but I think we should focus more on this game, it will show if we can compete with Premier League teams at least, plus significant extra revenue available for the semi's.

Interested to know what everyone else's thoughts are on this.

Ok here goes, we will get totally stuffed by Chelsea, whatever team we field will make no odds, yes as you say it'll be a test to see how we stack up against a PL team well I think we'll be in for a rude awakening. I note there are some on here who think some of our team would make it in the PL, personally I don't think any of them are PL quality and IF we did make it this season and if I were Steve mac i'd be looking at a complete overhaul.

We've given most of the players we wanted to keep from last season 4 year deals, I envisage all of those will have their contracts paid up and be shown the door

Sorry for being blunt but you did ask

Win 2-1 tomorrow at Middlesbrough & lose 2-1 against Chelsea would satisfy me. We have to keep our focus on promotion to the "Promised Land".

we play 3 games in a week plenty in the league so I don't see why we can't focus adequately for both games.

if I had to choose 1 to 'focus' on though I'd go for boro. bit like stenson sez, we can't expect to have any hope of beating Chelsea. they appear unstoppable at the moment. the occasion and adrenaline should be enough for the players to focus for that match, so tactically I'd be throwing everything at the boro game, who are certainly one of our big rivals for the top spots.

Interesting comments, thinking ahead of the January transfer window I would be focusing on the Chelsea game more myself, this maybe the only time this season that we play against premier league opposition and a real chance to test the players. I must admit though Stoke or West Brom would have been nicer

Both games are important anyhow, in Stevie Mac we trust.

Tempting but false question. The focus is on completely on boro, then we move on.

Jose will want to win this cup, he likes to win everything and that's what I love about him. Playing Chelsea is a bit different to playing other run of the mill prem clubs as they are one of the best clubs in the world. Would be great to beat them but no chance! Worth the entry fee just to see the two best clubs fight it out! Oh and a point at Boro will do me!!!

IMO it is an easy decision to make.I would love to win both games but if we had a choice the priority has to be Boro.
The financial benefits alone of playing in the top flight of English football outways everything else. We will attract better players and a higher profile to the club.
If we lose at Boro we could easily drop to 4th by the end of today. If we do not go up this season I believe our squad, including the management team, could be cherry picked and it may prove hard to keep the momentum going. I believe we are at a major junction of where our future for the next 10 years is going. Fleeting glory in the League Cup is nothing compared to sustained progress into the Premier League.
