    Haw Griff/Tazzy camera advice

My father in law has a canon D300 and is looking to upgrade to either a D60 or D70.
He uses a wide angle lens quite often and is wondering if he will get the most out of off his lens with those cameras. Any tips?

Noggy, can I first check that we're talking about the same cameras and all Canons. The D300 was a 6.3mp job with an APS-C sensor rather than full-frame. They also made a D60 which was pretty similar and almost the same pixel count. Latterly they came out with the EOS 60D (18mp) and EOS 70D (20.2mp) and they were in a different league. Is it those that he's considering? If so they're on a par with what I use, the Nikon D7000. There's only a slight difference in sensor sizes so I can compare with mine as I alo use wide-angle sometimes. (The Canon crop factor is 1.6 whereas it's 1.5 with the Nikon. That means that my Sigma 10-20mm wide-angle equates to 15-30mm on a full-frame, whereas on a Canon it's more like 16-32.) Very little difference and I'm extremely happy with my shots using wide lenses. The higher pixel count will be helpful to him because he can produce larger printed images or, if he likes to edit and crop, more useable parts of images. Either of those cameras would be a good

The problem with those Tazzy are they are bridge cameras and a Canon lens wont go onto them. I think he is looking to spend a bit more than that. Thanks for the input though

If he really wants to push the boat out noggy, the 6D is a full-frame option for around 1300 quid new. Well regarded, and it would make his lenses give even wider images. So, a 10-20 would work as exactly that, opening up landscapes significantly. He'd need his lens-hoods on sunny days and there'd be an increased chance of chromatic aberration. The downside s that he wouldn't have as much reach on his telephotos. You pays yer money and yer takes yer chance.
