    Aberdeen

I see they lay much claim to being a 'one-city club' (or is it a one-club city?)... anyway, I wondered what opinions were on how that affects competition.
Do clubs and their supporters need a local rival? Does local rivalry increase local competition which therefore translates into greater national competition?
Obviously we have had a local 'rival' (if you could call the bitter hatred directed at us as 'rivalry') for the whole of our existence. Could it be that the level of that rivalry is what has driven both teams' level of success?
Are the achievements of Aberdeen fc the greater because they have no local rival, or less so, because they have no local detractors?

BTW - the reason the OF were successful was in larg
