Well his "denial" on Radio Derby wasn't that strong despite how people interpreted it. A simple I'm not interested would have been really clear- like Bruce at Hull has said.Originally Posted by D_D

Anything in this?
His odds have gone from 50-1 to 4-1 this afternoon, making him second favourite behind Sherwood.
I senserly hope not.

Steve has a job on here, we have given him the chance to rebuild his reputation and he owes us big time. I would be very disappointed if he turned his back on the Rams.

I think that it has taken his time at Derby to rebuild a reputation...it has only been a year and a bit, my view is that it would be a wrong move for him at a poor time.the lure may be there of Newcastle, but the club and the way they operate really isn't going to suit many...in fact I think you can only fail there , that is why , if he thought about it , he shouldn't take it if he was offered...wrong club and wrong time in my opinion.
He is a fit at Derby and can only enhance his ' comeback " to managing in England.
I agree and he seems pretty honest but football is not known for its loyalty in any direction. Fans yes but to players and coaches it a job and like most of us they go where the grass seems to be greenest or best paid!Originally Posted by Hintonsboots

Who knows what's going on.
I was surprised to read in Peter Taylor's book that he and Clough had talks with Coventry City in 1972 and very nearly left Derby.
It could be anything. McClaren is a shrewd operator.
He might be interested in Newcastle.
He might be trying to get a better deal at Derby.
He might be using it as leverage to get more power/control at Derby.
He might be using it to get more money for players at Derby.
It could be any one of those things. All we can do is wait and try not to fret about it too much.
He won't be going anywhere near Newcastle. He simply isn't that daft.![]()
I don't know why you are chucking crap at Steve, he hasn't shown interest he has just been short listed. Have faith in him.Originally Posted by hantsram

New contract signed in the Summer, 3rd in the league, transfer targets already drawn up, reputation being rebuilt...
Isn't he good friends with Mike Ashley?
