    re: RIP Ken Furphy

Furphy brought in two game changers.

John Macnamee who was a no nonsense centre half and one of my all time heroes Tony Field

It suddenly made going to the games exciting once again.

We could do with that nowadays.

In Furphy's second year we won at Bolton 1 nil in front of 33000 I think. Can't remember the scorer but suddenly you started to believe again. Might have been a young Faz but not sure.

Unfortunately the bright lights of Bramall Lane seemed more attractive and off he went.

It took the dour Gordon Lee to finish the job but Furphy began the turnaround

Sorry to hear of his passing.

Rv You forgot Furphy's other claim to fame, He also introduced us to a young David Bradford who he said would be the first one million pound player he got that one a bit wrong eh although he must have thought quite a bit about him as he took him to Sheff Utd with him when he left then consequently Bradford followed him round various American league teams that Ken managed.

He was manager when I first ever watched Rovers in 1970/71 . Although I didn`t become a regular till 1974/75 by which time Gordon Lee was manager .

You are making me feel quite nostalgic

Endean, Price, Heaton, Martin, Faz, Conlon, Metcalfe, Arentoft, Jones etc

All committed to the cause and you felt like it was really Blackburn who were on the pitch.

Dewy eyed nonsense I know but it does bring back some great memories when we were a very ordinary team.

Very nostalgic indeed Rvblue it is cast in stone how rovers have battled through the lower divisions and came up smelling of roses, thanks to a certain Jack Walker, when I travel over Grain Rd I always think of Mick Heaton and how he would have enjoyed seeing Rovers achieve great success had he not met his maker on such a lonely road, still see Fred Pickering-Stuart Metcalf-and john Kenyon to have a chin wag so life is not all doom and gloom, it gives a whole perspective to life to think back to childhood sitting over th wall wi ass out ot pants watching your heroes.
A well guess i shouldnt of had them extra two pints.
