    O/T Sky and Scottish Football

The latest deal thrashed out by Sky and the FA sees each game down South worth the equivalent of 10 million pounds a game . Yes, Hull v Crystal Palace , Burnley v West From or whatever, 10 million a game . Is it about time that Scots subscribers tell Sky to shove it ? Scots pay 600 million in subscriptions for sport( mainly football) to Sky and we receive 15 million back for our game.

We're unfortunately not in a position to shove it JRS .

The Scottish game needs every single penny it gets .

Those in charge of our game should be working on a better deal from Sky & BT and it would also be nice if they could find the league a sponsor

Sadly, with the odd exception, there is no demand for Scottish football other than within Scotland, and even then the demand is limited. I take your point about Hull v Crystal Palace but, quite frankly, I don't think I'd bother to switch the TV on for that: but nor would I switch the TV on for, say, Partick Thistle v Ross County and I suspect that goes for a very substantial proportion of Scottish viewers who would much rather watch, for example, Liverpool v Totenham Hotspur which was on BT Sport on Tuesday evening. If I am not watching Queens, I want to see the best - and Scottish football is far from the best. The Premiership is a world wide phenomenon, particularly popular in the Far East where betting on games is rife. No longer do punters bet on the outcome of a game but on who will win the next corner, who will commit the next foul and etc. While you may think that £15m is crumbs from the Sky table, the unfortunate truth is that Scottish Football needs Sky far more than Sky ne

I am probably naive to think that Sky should show good faith and throw a few quid more down on Scottish footballs table . After taking into effect the money they cream from up here, they morally should but that really means nothing in the grand scheme of things. First things first, the money down there is grotesque. Average footballers, especially English ones, get paid a kings ransom for their modicum of talent . I have no idea why their ticket pricing is so high either . Surely this Sky money can help keep their match day ticket prices lower for the less wealthy to be able to go. Outside the top six or seven teams there is not a great demand abroad for games involving the rest. These teams can count themselves extremely lucky for the Man Utds , Chelsea and Arsenal`s etc who any glory hunter worth their salt follows. Personally, I get my football fix at Palmerston , backed up by watching Beebs MoTd and Sportscene . Couldnt imagine me sitting down for two hours to watch any of these g

JRSLEFTPEG, of course you have an idea why ticket pricing is so high in the Premiership. I mention the answer in my post above - GREED.

Yeah, I see now that you had touched on this . If football becomes less fashionable down there ie the middle classes lose interest , then things could nosedive. The very people that backed their clubs for decades are being priced out and that's a dangerous game for these clubs to play.

To be honest JRS for the product Scottish Football offers 15 million is probably too much as in general the football I see on offer is sh!te. I have more enjoyed the offerings I have seen live at Palmerston, Galabank and Stair Park the last 2 years than the spoon fed dross on TV.

As to pricing, my cousin thinks Queens is good value at £16 a game compared to the £94 his season ticket at the Emirates averages out at OUCH !!!

Firstly, forget for a minute of what you all think Scottish Football is worth. My main point was that Sky send back some 0.025% of the money received by Scottish Sky football subscribers back up North. From a moral point of view I say that is scandalous but as people have said, they have no obligation.----Secondly, are we really to say that our game is not worth 15 million pounds A SEASON when an EPL game grosses 10 million pounds A GAME. We have good sides like Celtic, Aberdeen and Dundee Utd. Other good sides like Hearts and Hibs will join them soon enough. I would love to see a major boycott of the Sports Package but I know this will never happen. Only one thing hurts these massive company's and its being hit in the pocket. They could well change their tune then.

Slightly off topic but I wonder if Sky will drop their prices for next season after they lost out to BT SPORTS for the champions league coverage ?!?
