    Consistently Wrong Refereeing decisions...

For the 2nd time this season we have seen a keeper attempt to prevent a goal by fouling a Derby player, yet failing to prevent the ball ending up in the back of the net:

    1. Camp: handball outside the box to "prevent" Ward scoring yet the ball ends up in the net. Ref decision: Camp sent off; free-kick to Derby, even though Ward scored. Diabolical decision.

    2. Westwood trips Ince; Bent scores. Ref decision: Keeper sent off and awards penalty even though Bent scored from the loose ball. Diabolical decision.

On each occasion, those decisions could have cost us points. Just not good enough, refs.

Surely if the keeper tries to prevent the goal by fouling yet fails, the goal should stand, especially if it is scored without a break in the "phase of play".

    Anyone beg to differ?

I think both decisions were wrong and both smack of referees wanting to make negative decisions (ie sending offs) rather than positive decisions (ie goals).

I presume in both circumstances if the referee had awarded the goal then both goalkeepers would have stayed on?

I can see that if the play stops because he blows then he has to award the penalty but in both the quoted scenarios the play continued normally so I can't see why he needs to stop the play to award the penalty other than the fact they like to be the "centre of attention"

Was everyone convinced that the GK actually tripped Ince because when it happened I thought Ince may have just fallen over!

A red card offence cannot have an advantage played after it. As soon as it's committed, the game stops.

Refs are right in both circumstances, according to the rules.

No, completely agree. Referee was a buffoon yesterday - one of those whi got many key decisions wrong but fussy enough to make sure that the ball was in t

Sounds correct Cov but you can't help feeling that natural justice should prevail.

I think the Ward - Camp incident was particularly poor because he hand balled it onto Ward's knee and into the net - yesterday's did involve another player (Bent) .

My argument is that did a red card offence actually happen if the ultimate goal stands because he hasn't prevented a goal scoring opportunity (tenuous , I know!)

Aye, the rule works every time, but not on these very rare occasions - and we've had two in a season!

I agree with you, but he has to stop play and send him off.

Their first and our third just proved how inconstant his poor decisions were.

If the player who got his shot away scored would he have disallowed the goal and given them the free kick? No

So why disallow Bents goal and award the penalty.

It's advantage when it suits them, so they can be in the limelight!

Luckily we scored the peno, but id still have taken bents first goal and them with 11 men. The red card is for denying a goal scoring opportunity, well he didn't!!

Most of you seem to be missing the point, Dave is 100% correct.

Once the decision has been made to send a player off, then play HAS TO stop.

So unless you disagree with the decision on the sending off then the title of this thread is wrong not the ref.

So many football fans are critical when utterly clueless, thanks for proving a point here Ella, stick to stats coz you know eff all about football.

But that was the wrong decision! He didn't deny a goal scoring opportunity as Bent scored!
