    Football League Show

I thought they were supposed to show highlight of the game. All they showed was the goals. They didn't show the appalling co!k up by the ref of waving play on after Hughes foul then bring play back for their free kick after the player had he's shot blocked. Didn't mention his other co!k up when Bent scored only to disallow it and give the penalty. Alright so Darren scored from the spot but if he had missed it could have cost us two points.

I think we've already established the ref played the penalty by the rules, so it wasn't a **** up.

Sorry Ramondo I don't diagree with you normally but must this time.

    Advantage

According to the principle of advantage, play should be allowed to continue when the team against which an offence has been committed will benefit from ongoing play. The referee indicates this by calling "play on!" and extending both arms in front of his body.[7]

"FIFA's guidance on the interpretation of the Laws for referees outlines the considerations a referee must make when deciding whether to play advantage; these include the severity of the offence and the potential for attacking opportunity. Referees are instructed to make such decisions "within a few seconds" of the offence.[1]:72

In rare situations, advantage can also be applied if the foul was also a misconduct. Play is allowed to continue, but at the next stoppage in play the caution or ""dism

We had this debate after the Bournemouth game and I posted a link to the official FIFA rules which showed the ref was wrong then...He could have allowed Ward's goal to stand then and could have let Bent's goal stand yesterday.

I'll try and find it again tomorrow as we have no search ability any longer.

The thing is if the ref had played the advantage and the ball wasnt put in the net you would have all been saying we should have been given a penalty, so the ref cant win really can he ?

Not necessarily. By playing advantage the ref isn't not allowing the penalty. Play continues until he has blown his whistle, so if he had allowed play to continue for a few seconds to see if there was any advantage to be gained, then he could have still blown and given a penalty if the goal hadn't been scored.

The point of debate however, of which I don't know the answer, is whether the rules meant that he had to give the penalty. The claim being made is that because it was a red card offence, the red card has to be given, therefore the resulting red card action (in this case, a penalty) would also have to be given, thus rendering any goal in the meantime as invalid.

Others are saying that that's not the case. Both sides are quoting the rule
