    Shaun Barker

In early May 1996 I,together with thousands of other Derby fans went to see the Rams play at West Bromwich. The result did not matter although Derby lost 3-2, because we had ensured second place, and therefore promotion the week before. The atmosphere was unbelievable a crowd of nearly 24000 (more than 7000 more than WBA's average) Jim Smith did not play his strongest side that day, content to let the likes of Marco Gabbiodini parade around the touch line, milking the applause from the fans. If Derby manage to secure promotion before the last game of the season this year (it will be Reading) then I would love to see Shaun given a cameo role near the end of the match. That would be in my opinion a fitting end to the season, and a tribute to Shaun for what he has been through these last three years.
