Thread: Credit where credit's due!

    Credit where credit's due!

Lots of good comments on Radio Five's Monday Night Club this evening about the Rams and the way they deal with loan players - even from the normally anti Claridge. The club got high praise for the way they had helped Jordan Ibe's development and the transformation they had brought to the performances of Messrs Bent and Ince. Also an informative phone in chat with Steve Round.
All good positive stuff for the club - but I have to say - not before time

Schteeve's stock just keeps rising and rising. Deservedly. I wonder where his ambitions will take him next? Or will we be ambitious enough to want to compete at the very top of the tree? And therefore keep the set-up intact?

Top of the tree? As in the top of the Premier League?

Not a hope in hell. It's possible with the right set up that occasionally a smaller club could make a one off push into the top 5 but I don'

It's not inconcievable that a team could break in. Look at Man City, League 1 not long ago. Yes, they have a bigger fan base than us, but attendance wise we matched 'em in this league and below.

As stated in another thread, ticket revenue is a small slice o' the financial pie, nowadays, and well spent TV money can get you into So'ton's position. A good Euro run on top of that can get you into the market for 4-4.5 star players, and suddenly you are competing at the very top.

What is needed to keep you up there is VERY shrewd transef policy, in and out, and an image of being the real deal to attract top sponsors, players, managers etc, so that if you have a blip it can be overcome.

I would agree, though its tad premature to be talking about staying in the league before we are there!!

I believe we have the right financial muscle and the right coaching set up to at least emulate the likes of Southampton, swansea, Stoke Hull and so on.

If burnley can do as well as they have with their comparatively small budget, then there is no reason to believe that we could not do that.

Keeping hold of Steve McClaren and his team will be key and they seem to have a shrewd transfer policy that I believe will bear fruit If we go up - but I'll be happier talking about that at the time we are celebrating promotion.

Agreed, if we were promoted the last thing we need is for another club to poach our management team. It would more than likely lead to another depressing relegation battle.

Swansea had 20 thousand last week for the visit of Manure , must be a worry for them .
