Why are we associated with Burton Albion? Never known why, would just like to know!

When i say associated, i mean why do we share radio air time with them? Coming away from the match Saturday, i turned the radio on and after about 5 minutes it was all about the Burton game! i couldn't give a toss about them! its radio derby not radio Burton. Drives me mad!

Radio Derby covers East Staffs.

I always look for their results and Chesterfield (and Mickleover Sports).

I live near Burton and am interested in how the team nearest to Derby are doing. I also go and watch them occasionaly when we are not at home. They are doing very well and hopefully will be promoted this year after two play offs in the past two years. Before RD went digital all I could get was MW so couldn't get Rams commentry. Quite a few Rams fans are interested in the Brewers so well done RD IMO

Radio Derby's broadcast licence is for Derbyshire and East Staffordshire, so RD are the BBC local radio station for Burton-on-Trent. Consequently, it makes sense that RD cover the Brewers. What I can never quite work out though, is why Burton get precedence over Chesterfield.

Burton are the only professional team other than Derby I've ever paid to watch, the FA cup game against Leicester way back when the foxes cheated their way to a 6-1 win and had to replay in an empty stadium (Cov I think). Burton scored first and I must admit I went ape**** in the Normo End terracing, along with I'd guess another 5000 Derby fans...

Quoting from a LCFC website 'In 1985 City were drawn away at then non-league Burton Albion in the third round of the FA Cup.
It was soon decided that the Brewers’ Eton Park ground would not be able to cope with the fixture and it was moved to the Baseball Ground, Derby.


This proved to be a bad idea, with City’s 6-1 victory being played out against a backdrop of almost constant crowd violence. 1985 was the high water mark for football violence and large numbers of Derby and Leicester hooligans had turned out in a 22,000 crowd.
At one stage the Burton keeper Paul Evans was felled by a missile requiring lengthy treatment, and Burton boss Neil Warnock demanded that the game be replayed.

He got his wish, Gary Lineker’s hat-trick was wiped from the record books and the two sides met again behind closed doors at Coventry’s Highfield Road.
It was a closer encounter with Paul Ramsey scoring the only goal of the game to see City into the fourth round'.
