Thread: Celtic in limboland

    Celtic in limboland

    A curious place.

Too good (as you would excpect for the size their budget) for the rest of Scotland.

Too poor to compete in Europe as a very poor Inter Milan showed.

A big enough pull to entice away stars from other Scottish clubs, even SPFL.

Not a big enough pull to attract the big europeans.

Given they will never be allowed to compete in England, Celtic are left in the middle of nowhere.

Where next for the club in limboland? :/

A couple of interesting points being brought up there Ian.

And you're correct with all of them.

The biggest issue that needs addressing is the mahoosive size difference in budgets between Celtic and the rest of Scotland.

Its been said before, and it'll be said again (in countless years to come), but equal distribution of TV money, league sponsorship and even gate money would do a great deal to address the issue.

Of course clubs had the chance to change all this, when they voted a few years back on changing the 11-1 voting rules; they decided to stay the same (the shame of it being my club with the deciding vote ).

But then again, if Celtic are serious about the lack of competition in Scotland, then perhaps the onus (sp?) is on them to help in addressing that problem.

Something needs to be done though.

Fair point Ian, though Ra Tic won't want to accept it.

Celtic can dominate Scottish fitba for as long as they like, but they'll never do anything of note in Europe ever again, and they know it.

That's probably one of the main reasons why their fans are deserting them in droves.

Let's face it lads - Celtic were damn fortunate to win the Euro Cup in 1967 with at least one offside goal, deservedly lost the 1970 final to Feyenoord, tried to kick Athletico Madrid off the park in the 1974 SF, tried to bottle Rapid Vienna at the Tattiedome (then attacked them at Old Trafford when the game was replayed) & were outclassed by Porto in 2003 despite trying to stifle the Portuguese side.

All in all, not a record to be proud of. :/

So basically you are saying your diddy club is begging Celtic for our gate money that Celtic fans hand over f

You have that back tae front, Celtics biggest crowds are in European ties, and lowest for domestic games against uninspiring talentless sh1te.

Desperate stuff from the sheep and where the feck has your team been for the last 25 years?

Celtic are far from being in 'limbo land' and good times ahead under Ronny as his team are improving and evolving with every game...14 games in Europe this season will have been a massive learning curve for Ronny and his team and no shame in being papped oot by the odd goal in 7 by Inter Milan , given the circumstances.

4 in a row tae be won for the first time in over 40 years and maybe a cup or two so life in limbo land is magic.

    re: Celtic in limboland

The financial gulf between Rangers / Celtic and the rest of our clubs is massive, to the point that the rest only exist to make a fist of league for them to battle it out for undisputed champions of Scotland .
It's no secret why that happened is it really!
Maybe Scottish football has run its course and carried Celtic to full term, but where do they go? Where do Celtic see themselves going, will they be welcomed. If their future is in Scotland then they too must take steps to ensure they don't switch off their own life support machine.
What can be done to make it competitive again. (I know, I know when was it ever long term competative)
