    My Mate Rattea

Sorry for bringing Rattea up again but I do think he has a point re Macs signings. He says Mac has not made many good signings, apart from expensive loans. At least I think thats what he posted. If you look at the team Rattea may be right. I went through the team to try and find a good signing by Steve and was struggling to find one. Please tell me I'm wrong. I'm not saying by the way that he hasn't improved Clough's signings or the way the team play.

Oh dear, the number of times Rattea is in the title of your threads suggests you are in awe of him...

" struggling to find ONE good signing "

assume you are discounting George Thorne cos Mac should have known he'd get injured soon.

George was the obvious one I thought of. Probably the obvious one everyone else thought of as well. Surprised you missed it Ramspride.

Or did Rats slip something in your drink

    Interesting question though because we had a similar discussion during half time at the match on Saturday. We were going through the permanent signings Stevey boy has made. We came up with;

    Thorne (obviously)
    Christie
    Dawkins

Struggling to think of any others, Albentonsa of course but it's hard to judge him yet (which is surely the point of the exercise). Didn't Mac sign Roos too?

Roos is decent. Thorne is a God and I wish to adopt him as my illegitimate love child.

    Christie and Dawkins... hmmmmm

Thorne is a good player no doubt and could be classed as a good signing. After that we are struggling, Dawkins is a decent squad player, and albentosa could be great or ****e. I hope that Mac turns out to be as good at clough at signing players, or else long term we are screwed.

it's a futile argument. loans are a legitimate strategy from mac and the club so why does it matter whether they're perm or loan?

ince and thorne are quite possibly the best 2 loan signings I've ever seen at derby. there's only leon Osman I can think of in the same league.

the point is that if we go up you can expect players like ince to join permanently - we even managed that with thorne from the play off final money.

I agree, loans are used by every club. Ince worked out well here so far, but was useless at Forest.

After the night of ****** it's possibly something else I have been slipping play tingle next time ramspride!

Arguably Thorne was already a target of the club before McClaren. Some use the arguement of whit read being a Clough signing. But that was a loan not a permanant.

Dawkins ... More impact than say Thoe Robinson?

Loans there have been a few duffers such as Keane. The books will show value for money on Bent and Ince but my point here these are not through the shrewdness of McClaren but throwing money at it.

Just compare for a minute the spots and value for money of Bryson, Buxton, Martin, Ward, Russell, Grant, etc etc etc.

Not an opinion just stating the circumstance. You make the choice.

Remember Rush himself said one of the main reasons McClaren was brought in was for his knowledge and contacts in n the transfer market. On balance compared to his predessesor has he done better?

I'm holding out judgement on this until June where it will tell us if firstly mcclaren has been a success or if based on promotion or not improvements have been made

This season we have gambled heavily on promotion as the next accounts will show. The likes of Bryson and Hughes have signed big contracts for a championship club and big loan fees and wages have been paid for the loans of ince and bent.

All this has seemingly thrown the stabilisation of finances plan out of the window and the work that clough did would have been heavily dented and in my opinion the last 18 months would be taking two steps back.

If we don't go up is expect mcclaren and his staff to move on in the summer

I think you have missed the point of the thread. We all know MacClaren has signed player and we know the theory that players should perform and become assets on the pitch or commodities off. Yes very good. But thats not quite whats happening is it.

Players are being signed. They have been making little or no impact and almost disappearing. Its over 18 months hes been manager now and apart from if's, but's and could be's what evidence is there ... none!

That I think is why now the panic button has almost been pressed and they have shipped in 'rumored' costly signings. In essence its that simple!

Let deal with what you said one by one.

Cant remember Rush saying MacClarens knowledge and experience in the transfer market. Just check back to all the stuff in the Media when the change was mad its his main point. Look at the interviews with gibson or ask people who have been to the open (so to speak) evenings. BearofWar reported back just before christmas he stated this. You could sa
