Topping tells Rangers 'rule book is not a pick and mix'

The rules state quite clearly that if your team plays in blue shirts, white shorts and red and black socks, they are not allowed to let season book holders in free. But if you wear green strips with white shorts, you can do what you want.

Scottish Professional Football League chairman Ralph Topping has told Rangers that their rule book "is not a pick and mix" after rejecting the club's play-off ticket plan.

The Ibrox club had planned to allow season ticket holders in for free to the Premiership play-offs, in violation of rule C26 of the league's regulations.

It states that clubs must give 50% of the gross proceeds from gate receipts to the SPFL by means of a levy, with all sums "paid or payable" to be directed to the league.

However, the league's board have taken the stance that the clubs must abide by rules, which the SPFL believes prevents free admission being given., with Topping warning against "self-interest" dictating an altering of the rules.
