    Lansbury & Antonio's Price Tag

    Hi everyone

One thing that I have been rather shocked about is the prices that are being quoted for 2 of our best players, Antonio & Lansbury. If the club is going to get out of FFP then we are going to need to make money from the sales of players. I know that this isn't going to be a popular opinion but it is true. FFP ensures that the clubs are run like businesses and therefore we must think like one also.

If you buy an asset for 1.5m (Antonio) and 1.0m (Lansbury) and someone offers you a good price for them then it makes sense to cash in at this stage. "But we can't replace them" I hear you cry. Well yes we can if we a) use our youth team and agree to be a mid-table team until we are out of our embargo or b) we continue to uncover talent like we did with these 2. But what would be a fair price?

5m for Antonio and 4m for Lansbury are ridiculous. We sold Jenas to Newcastle for 5m in 2002 as a fresh faced 18 year old who had only played 29 games in 2 years and scored 4 goals. Anton

This was my opinion a week or so ago, at the end of the day we finished 14th anyway with these 2 in the team so cash in is what I say,
Been a poor season SBC so lets get cash for these 2 and balance the books a bit,

Next season will be a struggle I'm sure unless DF can motivate em to perform, motivating younger players shouldn't be a problem so we will never know until they are put to the test next season.

I agree with the values of the players . Wether or not they are actually worth that is a different thing . But the reason behind selling them is wrong . To say to sell them because we finished 14th with them in the team so cash in is ridiculous . We finished where we were because of many reasons; change of manager, injuries to several of our players, and also as soon as we realized we could not make the play offs our form dipped big time . Reid, Cohen , our main striker along with our two centre half out injured. And to drop our young players in to replace Lansbury and Antonio is too much pressure too soon and could set them back especially with the pressure our fans put on the players . Keep both and get the lawyers involved especially as Leeds have transfer ban lifted and the impending qpr saga . The biggest problem comes is when a manager unearths a diamond for nothing. He usually keeps getting asked to pull rabbits out of the hat every season and that ain't gonna happen

Selling players is not the answer, we have a good squad now and the real problem (in my opinion) is the manager, I am not convinced that this guy is up to the job. with all the players fit and available we should be able to win this league, but of cause they are never all fit and having said that we should still be able to put up a fight. once those players that won't put in a good shift(and some of them didn't) are weeded out we should be competative. I honestly don't think this guy is can put fire in there bellies for a challenge.I hope I am wrong and would love it if I was, and would gladdly take a kicking from our happy bloggers just to see us stay in the top 6

What's the value and what someone will pay is 2 different things. But they can be sold for 10 million, then we must sell. Not just for FFP, but it's logical. Use that and buy 3 or 4 replacements for tat amount. Good quality replacements - note to Es*** - not Clint Hill. [/quote]

Would probably get better movement from VINCE Hill (one for our older viewers !), and, for a bit of pace in the closing minutes, Benny Hill !

problem is we will not be able to spend any money we make selling players under the rules of the embargo, not in this window anyway. Unless stupid offers coming in it is pointless selling anybody as long as the players are happy here.
